The Port of Walla Walla held its first Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting on November 5, 2015, to kick-off the Walla Walla Airport’s Master Plan update. Seventeen persons representing a variety of agencies participated in the kick-off meeting.
Facilitated by Mr. Mitch Hooper of Mead & Hunt, Inc., the purpose of the meeting was to familiarize PAC members with the Master Plan purpose and update process. The group reviewed the airport’s current facilities, which was documented in the Master Plan’s Airport Inventory,” and tried to envision what the airport would look like during the next 20 years.
To envision the future of the Walla Walla Airport (ALW), the meeting include a SWOT Analysis, which identified the airport’s current internal Strengths, Weaknesses Opportunities, and Threats. PAC members were quick to point out the ALW’s many strengths, such as its abundance of World War II-Era facilities and state-of-the art terminal, and acknowledged the potential threats posed by the lack of building stock to house prospective tenants. The results of the SWOT analysis will serve as input to the updated Master Plan. (Complete meeting materials and notes are available here.
The Port will schedule additional PAC meetings to coincide with key decision points in the Master Plan update. If you are interested in attending upcoming PAC meetings, contact Jennifer Skogland, Airport Manager.
